On July 14, 1995 at the end of the 12th stage of the Tour de France between Saint-Étienne and Mende, Laurent Jalabert crystallized on the Côte de la Croix Neuve which leads to the aerodrome of Mende one of the most significant victories of his career. On this national holiday after 198 km of breakaway, Jalabert realizes "The most beautiful of the Great Vadrouilles, but it is not cinema". Since 2005, in honor of this victory, the 3.1 km climb with an average gradient of 10.1% has been named Montée Laurent Jalabert. Montée Jalabert is the scene of many other cycling events. Riders from the Tour du Gévaudan and Paris-Nice come to do battle on this now legendary coast. To gently prepare for the Tour de France, cyclists until 2002 tackled this climb during the Grand Prix Midi Libre. Climb the Montée JALABERT as an amateur and get your diploma at the Mende Tourist Office.
