Cévennes National Park

Created in 1970, the Cévennes National Park is one of France’s ten national parks. This jewel of nature is made up of a core area, a remarkable, protected and regulated space, and an accession area, made up of communes that have signed up to the National Park charter and its values.

A jewel singled out by UNESCO

This vast area of medium-sized mountains has been recognised by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, for its special balance between man and nature, and as a World Heritage Site for the agro-pastoral cultural landscapes of the Causses and Cévennes.

Explore a unique nature park!

From the granite uplands of Mont Lozère to the majestic forests of the Aigoual, from the vast limestone plateaux of the Causse Méjean cut by the spectacular Tarn and Jonte gorges to the greenhouses and valleys of the schistose Cévennes: you’ll marvel at the sumptuous scenery!

A host of wonderful discoveries await you.
The traces of a history dating back thousands of years are clearly visible: megaliths, medieval castles, Camisard strongholds… And how can you fail to fall under the spell of magnificently preserved traditional architecture?

With its 5,000 kilometres of signposted routes, the National Park invites you to discover its magnificent landscapes on foot, in the company of a donkey, on horseback, on a mountain bike, or by practising nature sports: canoeing, kayaking, climbing, via ferrata, etc.

Breathtaking!

The richness of the National Park lies in the variety of natural environments in which a large number of plant and animal species thrive.
Perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to see the spring adonis (Adonis de Printemps)or the Venus hoofbeard (sabot de vénus), watch a griffon vulture in flight or cross paths with a beaver?

There’s something for everyone to discover.

From May to October, the National Park offers free events and outings linked to its heritage: the Festival Nature. During the summer, you can“meet the Park” at an emblematic site in the region to discover it and understand the missions of the Park’s staff.
