Pelouse - La Rouvière

This circuit, starting from the commune of Pelouse, will take you to the foothills of the Charpal plateau. Along the way, you will discover a rich vernacular heritage (communal oven, fountain, sculpted cross). You will admire the beautiful Romanesque church of La Rouvière with its pentagonal chevet from the 12th century and its sculpted exterior capitals. And, if the church is open, you can admire the Gothic wall paintings from the 15th century. From the parking lot located in front of the church of Pelouse, head towards the cemetery, pass in front and take the uphill street (rue de Fournadis). Ignore 4 streets that go off to the right and take the downhill street on the left (rue de l'Agulio). The tarmac gives way to the path that descends to the Sagnelongue stream. 2. Cross the small wooden bridge and climb the shaded path that leads to a forest track. Turn right. 3. After about 1.4 km of gentle uphill slope (altitude 1,244 m), ignore the path going uphill to the right and go downhill to the left. Cross the Valat du Bouchin. Turn right, reach a tarmac road and go downhill to a cross on the left. Turn left and reach a crossroads towards the church and the cemetery. Turn right, arrive at a small square in the center of the village of La Rouvière with a beautiful 12th century Romanesque church. 4. After the church, follow the street going uphill to the right and join the road by which you arrived in the village. About 50 m further on, take the road going uphill to the right. The tarmac road ends, take the list opposite for about 1.5 km to a crossroads of tracks. 5. At the crossroads, take the track for about 150 m. 6. Continue on the track to the left, heading east. Ignore the forest sows on the left and go down to a crossroads. 7. Turn left, ignoring the forest sows that go off to the left. Reach a crossroads. 8. Turn right and very quickly left, then continue straight ahead, ignoring a forest sow starting on the left and reach the sculpted cross seen on the way there. When you get back to the road, go down opposite towards the Sagnelongue stream, cross it and go up to the left to the Pelouse church.
