Explanations & maps
All tours start at the Tourist Office on Place du Foirail in Mende (148 parking spaces).
For visitors with a hearing, mental or visual disability, we have a range of tools available for loan at the Office and via the free Handivisites app (available on Apple and Android).
1. The audio-guided tour This guides you through the narrow streets of the town centre, passing by the Cathedral. As well as the application you can download onto your smartphone, the Tourist Office also has drawing books available in contrasting colours or in relief to complete your tour. 2. The LSF tour: For each point of interest on the tour, you will be shown a video in French Sign Language on theHandivisites application ( downloadable onto your smartphone). 3. The FALC tour: the Tourist Office will lend you a booklet written to European ” Easy to Read and Understand ” standards. The FALC booklet is also available on Handivisites.

1st visual, the map of Mende: Recommended route for wheelchair users. The historic centre of Mende is generally accessible to PRMs . A map of the historic centre and the Cathedral is available from theTourist Office or can be downloaded here.
The pharmacy in the old hospitaland the house known as the “old synagogue” (accessed via rue Notre Dame) are only accessible during guided tours. However, the town hall and its marriage hall are not yet accessible. |
2nd visual, the map of the Cathedral (click on the arrow to the right of the image to see it): As far as the Cathedral is concerned, the south door of the building on Place Chaptal (to the right of the cathedral in the 2nd image) provides access to the interior. The other two doors are preceded by stairs and are often closed.
